U.S. Space & Rocket Center offers free admission Saturday for ‘Smithsonian” magazine’s Museum Day Live!

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. - The U.S. Space & Rocket Center, a Smithsonian Affiliate museum, will open its doors free of charge Saturday, Sept. 24, as part of Smithsonian magazine’s 12th annual Museum Day Live! On this day only, participating museums across the United States open their doors for free to those with a Museum Day Live! ticket. Rocket Center hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The event represents Smithsonian’s commitment to make learning and the spread of knowledge accessible to everyone. Visit smithsonian.com/museumday and sign up. To receive free admission, guests must print their tickets or have it accessible on their mobile device. Please note: a Museum Day Live! ticket provides free admission for two people. Also on Saturday, the Rocket Center is joining Smithsonian Affiliates across the country in celebrating the opening Saturday of the National Museum of African American History and Culture. To note the Smithsonian Institute’s newest museum, the Rocket Center will hold a panel discussion on “NASA and the Long Civil Rights Movement.” The panel discussion will take place in the National Geographic Theater from 1 to 2 p.m. Retired and current NASA engineers and directors will serve as panelists in the discussion moderated by Gerald L. Vines of Alabama A&M University. Following the panel, Alabama State Rep. Laura Hall will lead a ribbon-cutting ceremony in the Saturn V Hall, the home of the Smithsonian’s largest object, the Saturn V Moon Rocket The panel is free to the public, and seating is on a first-come-first-serve basis.
