Prohibited Items

This Standard governs the permission and prohibition of items brought into the Center's facilities by employees, guests, vendors, and others. The Center reserves the right to prohibit people and materials from its premises, including things not listed in this Standard. 

Standard

1.    Unless authorized, these items are prohibited:

  • Weapons
    • Firearms and ammunition
    • Knives, scissors, and blades
    • Dual-use items that could be considered dangerous to people or art, including hammers, saws, sharp objects, poles, and stic
    • Pepper spray, mace, and other chemical compounds or biological agents that could be considered toxic, including flammable liquids, aerosols, fuels, fireworks, harmful chemicals, and explosives
  • Alcoholic beverages
  • Objects larger than 11" x 17" x 5"
  • Luggage
  • Sporting goods and Recreational equipment, including:
    • E-scooters
    • Recreational scooters
    • Skateboards
    • Hoverboards
    • Wheeled footwear including
      • Roller skates
      • Roller blades
  • Marking materials such as:
    • Paint
    • Adhesives
    • Epoxies or glues
    • Colored pencils, crayons, and markers
  • Party Materials such as:
    • Banners
    • Signs
    • Confetti
    • Balloons
    • Plants & flower arrangements
  • Costumes, including masks that cover the face
  • Flying devices including
    • Drones
    • Unmanned aerial devices
    • Survey balloons
    • Photography mini-copters
  • Sound Devices including
    • Portable speakers
    • Airhorns
    • Musical instruments

2. Screening of Bags:

a. The US Space & Rocket Center employs security personnel to conduct a thorough hand-check of all bags, briefcases, purses, and containers at security checkpoints.
b. All visitors, employees, vendors, and others may be required to submit all bags for examination or screening.
c. Unattended bags may be sequestered and examined for threats.

3. Screening of Persons
a. Visitors, employees, vendors, and others may be required to walk through a detection device to enter facilities.

b. Those who cannot go through the detection device may be hand­ screened with an electronic wand by security personnel.
