May Space Works Theme: Zero-G Makers

This month, we’ll explore how design changes in a zero-gravity environment. From how objects move and orient themselves to how function and form must adapt without gravity, participants will discover the unique challenges of designing for space.

Zero-G EditionTeen Maker Hour: Maker Mascots: Zero-G Edition

Get ready to design for space! In this hands-on maker lab, teens will explore how objects behave in a zero-g environment and discover why astronauts use special indicators to signal weightlessness. Using upcycled materials like cardboard, fabric, and hardware parts, students will learn basic sewing stitches and simple pattern-based design to create their own floating zero-g indicator. Part engineering challenge, part creative build, each project will become a unique “maker mascot” designed to inspire on Earth or in orbit.

Ages: 12+. Free*.
*Reservations are required for Teen Maker Hour, as seating is limited.
Fridays 1 – 2 p.m.
Saturdays 1 – 2 p.m.
