F1 Engine (Apollo Courtyard)

F-1 engine being tested at Marshall Space Center in Huntsville

Built to be the heavy lifting workhorse of the Saturn V, the F-1 was designed to send large payloads into low Earth orbit, or small payload to the moon. Generating over 1.5 million pounds of thrust, one F-1 Engine emitted more power than three RS-25s, the Space Shuttle’s Main Engines. It still holds the record for the most powerful single combustion chamber liquid-propellant rocket engine.
