Redstone Rocket

Army Redstone rocket

The PGM-11 Redstone was the first large ballistic missile built by the U.S. Military and was designed in large part by the German rocket team that came to the U.S. after WWII. Because of its capabilities and reliability, the Redstone was modified to send the first U.S. satellite, Explorer I, and the first two Americans into space. The Redstone proved critical to America’s first steps into space.
