The triangular isogrid “floor” of Skylab was originally designed to give structure for the fuel tanks of the rocket. As engineers were designing Skylab, they realized this grid provided a suitable structure for astronauts to anchor on to while performing experiments. The shoes were thus designed to work with the preexisting structure.
