Sonny Morea, a true hero and legend of the U.S. Space Program.

Sonny truly is an extremely generous, compassionate, inspirational and humble human being. I cannot tell you how moved I was to talk with him – I got a little teary-eyed, but I did not want him to see that! From a distance I had no idea it was Sonny – I did not even know he was one of the Emeritus Docents! I simply walked about to him to ask him a question because he had the white NASA coat on – he was looking down at the time -- and as he looked up, I recognized him instantly from Moon Machines documentary as well as books I’ve read in the past (I did not need to look at his name tag to know who he was!). There he was standing right in front of me, looking into my eyes – Sonny Morea, a true hero and legend of the U.S. Space Program! We spoke for a long time about technology, history and even family. He said he did not feel like he was that important and I said “Sonny, without your leadership, intellect, compassion, hard work and dedication, those beautiful massive F-1s would never have worked and we wouldn’t have gotten humans to the moon by 1969!” (and those incredible, ingenious Lunar Rovers would have just remained as ideas on paper had it not been for Sonny!). Werner von Braun knew exactly what he was doing when he put Sonny Morea in charge – because he knew Sonny had all the innate qualities of a true leader.
