HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – The 2017 Biergarten season ends this Thursday, Oct. 19, at the U.S. Space & Rocket Center. Almost 20,000 guests have attended the weekly event this year, dining on authentic German food and enjoying a beer or a glass of wine under the Saturn V Rocket.

The last Biergarten will begin with a bang, as local entrepreneur and inventor Tim Pickens test fires a small rocket engine at 4:30 p.m. Biergarten guests will be able to watch the test firing from the terrace of the Davidson Center for Space Exploration. Pickens will then join the festivities inside the Davidson Center.

Also on Thursday, Yellowhammer Brewery will present a $10,000 donation to the U.S. Space & Rocket Center Education Foundation General Scholarship Fund. The donation is the culmination of a months-long fundraising drive to help send students from all over the world to Space Camp. From July to October 2017, Yellowhammer pledged a portion of the sales of their T-Minus Tangerine Kölsch, a beer originally brewed for the Rocket Center’s Space Camp Alumni Festival.

Applications for 2018 Space Camp scholarships are open now until Jan. 8, 2018. More information about Space Camp scholarships can be found at www.spacecamp.fluidreview.com.

Biergarten is a family-friendly event, and leashed dogs are welcome outside on the Davidson Center terrace or Apollo Courtyard. Each week, the Rocket Center partners with a local non-profit agency, which receives a portion of the food sales from the evening. This week, Nexus Energy Center is the non-profit, and the Little German Band will provide live music.

Admission to Biergarten is free, and the food and beverages are available for purchase. Biergarten returns in March 2018.
