Program made possible by the Josh Small Memorial Scholarship

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – This week, students from Merrimack Hall Performing Arts Center’s Happy Hearts Arts Afterschool Program and its Happy Days Adult Day Camp have attended a special Space Camp program made possible by the Josh Small Memorial Scholarship Fund. The program ends Friday, Oct. 20 at 11 a.m., with a graduation ceremony in the Davidson Center for Space Exploration.

Members of Josh Small’s family will observe the 13-member team’s final Space Camp mission Friday at 9 a.m., and are attending the graduation at 11.

Josh Small was the founder of the New York-based Castor Aerospace, which provides insurance coverage for the international space industry. He had a passion for space exploration, and it was his idea to work with the U.S. Space & Rocket Center Education Foundation to send a group of students with special needs to Space Camp. After his death in 2016, Josh’s family fulfilled his dream, which came to fruition this week.

“When Josh was alive, he had really wanted to set up a similar scholarship program to send special needs kids to Space Camp,” Adam Small, Josh’s brother said. “He had started the process but died before he was able to implement it, which is why we wanted to move forward with it in his memory.”

Media is invited to cover both the mission and the graduation ceremony.
