The U.S. Space & Rocket Center is seeking friendly and enthusiastic people (ages 16+) to become part of our dynamic volunteer team! The USSRC is a Smithsonian Affiliate and the Official Visitor Center for NASA's Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville, AL, welcoming more than 700,000 visitors from around the world each year!
Volunteers are an important part of the Rocket Center family, assisting our staff in welcoming and educating our visitor. Become a vital part of the world's most comprehensive collection of space hardware and artifacts! Enjoy camaraderie and a sense of community among other volunteers and staff that share your passion for space exploration.

Requirements to become a Rocket Center volunteer are as follows:
- Minimum 16 years of age
- Reside within 40 miles of the Center
- Commit to volunteering an average of six hours per month or 72 hours over the course of one year.
- Successfully complete a background check
Process to become a volunteer at the U.S. Space & Rocket Center:

- Attend a USSRC volunteer orientation
- Orientations are offered every six weeks and provide an overview of the Center's history as well as the many volunteer opportunities available.
- Pay a one-time administrative fee of $35.
Volunteer opportunities are varied. Some examples include:
Museum Greeter
Welcome guests to the Center and direct them to the ticket booth while answering any questions that guests may have prior to purchasing a ticket.
Exhibit Attendant/Guide
Provide guests with overview of exhibit. This position requires training or knowledge on specific exhibits. Training is provided.
Gift Shop Recovery
Assist gift shop employees with straightening of displays and restocking.
Museum Wayfinder
Assist guests as they navigate their way through the main museum and through Rocket Park to the Davidson Center.
Aviation Challenge (AC) Tour Recruitment/Leading Tours (Seasonal)
Recruiting museum guests to take the free Aviation Challenge Tour. Leading AC tours. (Training is required and offered for volunteers leading tours.)
Mars Grill Host/Hostess
Serve as a hostess in our public dining space assisting guests to the food line, locating a table and offering guests assistance where needed.
“Spark!Lab”
Engage with guests by initiating play/invention at one of the activity areas.
Archives
Assist our Archives Department on an as-needed basis if volunteer has skills that match the needs in this department.
Special Events
Assist with one of the many special events including set-up, registration, activities and tear-down.
